Chamber of Commerce lights up hospital

Story PicturePatients receiving medical treatment at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital will as of tonight have some extra comfort – courtesy of the Belize Chamber of Commerce and Industry. This afternoon staff members of B.C.C.I. took time off to donate and decorate an eight-foot tall Christmas tree for the facility’s lobby. According to Manager of Business Development at the Chamber, Omar Ortiz, the purpose is to help spread Christmas cheer among patients and staff.

“Even though you’re at the hospital you can still appreciate the joys of Christmas, the blessings of Christmas, the fact that the Good Lord is with us at this time of the year and we want everyone to understand and feel merry, feel joyous at this time of the year.”

“And you thought about the sick?”

Omar Ortiz
“We thought about the sick. In our minds we’re trying to take care of those people who are forgotten and we spoke with the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital, with the staff here, and they said we don’t have any Christmas tree in our lobby and so could you please do one here. So that is what we’re doing here, we’re extending, reaching out to the Karl Heusner staff and their patients and letting them understand that at Western Union we care about them and that we do value them.”

The tree and decorations cost around a thousand dollars. Ortiz says the Chamber also plans to conduct a similar undertaking at the Southern Regional Hospital next week.
