Another child drowns in Stann Creek village well

Meanwhile, a Stann Creek district mother is tonight mourning the loss of her little girl after the child drowned. Around eleven-thirty Monday morning, two year old Lisandra Quintanilla was playing in the yard of her Bella Vista home with several other children when she fell into a well. They ran to get help but by the time the toddler’s mother, Doralicia Garcia, arrived at the scene, she found Lisandra floating in about four feet of water. The child was pulled out and rushed to the health centre but there was nothing doctors could do to save her.

This is the third time in less than three months that young children have died in tragic accidents in the Stann Creek district. On October thirty-first, eighteen month old Carla Maldonado, also of Bella Vista, fell into a well and drowned.

Then on September twenty-ninth, two year old Raheem Martinez, was left home alone in Independence Village, when a lit mosquito coil set fire to the lumber and palmetto structure. Neighbours were unable to enter the building to save the boy. Martinez’s father, twenty-eight year old Remijio Lorenzo Martinez, was later charged with Causing Death by Careless Conduct.
