Ganzie testifies in his own defense
Louis Gentle, better known as “Louie Ganzie”, charged with the murder of his ex-common-law wife Takeisha Sutherland, took the witness stand today in his own defense. Ganzie testified that he could not have committed the murder because at the time of the incident, about four a.m. on January, third 2007, he was at the house of a friend, Roy Zelaya who resides on Sarstoon Street. Zelaya also testified and corroborated Ganzie’s alibi testimony but Zelaya could not say exactly what time Ganzie left his house. He said he knows that it was after four a.m. Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions Cheryl Lyn Branker-Tait called one rebuttal witness, Sergeant Nicholas Palomo, who testified that shortly after the incident he went to Zelaya’s house and asked Zelaya about Ganzie’s whereabouts. He said Zelaya told him Ganzie came back for fifty dollars and he looked jumpy. Zelaya denied he ever spoke to Palomo. In testimony last week the victim’s grandmother, Gilda Johnson, testified that she saw Ganzie leaving the scene of the crime just after the murder was committed. Ganzie is being represented by attorneys Dickie Bradley and Darrell Bradley. Both the prosecution and the defence have closed their cases and will address the jury tomorrow.
