Suspect arrested following city carjacking

Another set of carjackers were not quite so lucky when they stole a van on Saturday night. The driver, forty-four year old Glenford Morgan, told police that around nine forty-five, five men entered his taxi and asked to be taken to Faber’s Road. When they reached their destination three of the passengers pulled guns. One then pistol whipped him and stole fifty dollars and his cell phone. Morgan was eventually driven to mile six on the Northern Highway where he was threatened and put out of the vehicle, while the jackers sped off. And that’s where the story would have ended, except that just after midnight a police mobile patrol spotted and intercepted the red Astro Van on Far West Street. The occupants fled on foot and when the cops pursued the driver they saw him throw a gun onto the verandah of a house. That driver, nineteen year old Burly Card, was caught on East Canal. The firearm, a nine millimetre Smith and Wesson loaded with nine rounds of ammo, was also recovered. Card has been charged with Robbery, Wounding, Possession of an Unlicensed Firearm and Ammunition. He was remanded to prison and will reappear in court on December ninth for the firearm offences and December seventeenth for the robbery.
