Taximan wounded fighting off attackers
Police meanwhile believe they will make an arrest shortly for another shooting that occurred on Friday night. The victim in this case is fifty year-old Lincoln Jones, a taxi driver of Tibruce Street. Jones told police that he made a stop at the corner of Raccoon Street and Central American Boulevard where a man on a bicycle approached him and requested his services for his sister who was purportedly waiting on a taxi. Jones said he followed directions and parked at the corner of Louise Bevans and Unity Streets. However, he was taken by surprise when three men entered the taxi and one of them produced a gun. Jones said he fought with his attackers but one of them shot him in the right side of the abdomen and left foot. Officer Commanding the C.I.B. said while Jones’ decision was a brave one, it is not something police would recommend.
Superintendent Aaron Guzman, Officer Commanding, C.I.B.
“It is our opinion that they may have wanted to take Mr. Jones’ car to use to do something illegal but Mr. Jones, being the person he is, I guess he fought them off somewhat. They eventually overpowered him after shooting him, but they didn’t get away to do anything with his car so I guess that’s just being a strong person and fighting for his property. I wouldn’t suggest that anybody do that all the time but then when push comes to shove you have to make a decision where your property is concerned.”

“Is that the norm now, criminals just attacking people to gain access to their vehicle to commit crime?”
Superintendent Aaron Guzman
“We do see it from time to time and it could be that they needed a vehicle to commit some sort of crime and that’s why they tried to do that to Mr. Jones but obviously it didn’t work out well for them. We do have a lead that we’re following strongly and we’d hope that very shortly, by tomorrow, we’d have made some arrests in this case.”
