Car set on fire
Belize City police are tonight investigating what they believe is a case of arson. Sometime around four o’clock this morning a red Toyota Camry belonging to Kylie Rivers was set on fire. Rivers reported to police that she had parked the vehicle on Antelope Street Extension, adjacent to her brother’s house around ten-thirty on Thursday night. Several hours later she was awoken to the sound of her car alarm. Upon making a check of the vehicle she discovered that it was on fire. The Fire Department was immediately notified and a team of firemen responded to the blaze. While the cause of the fire has not been determined Police Press Officer Sergeant Fitzroy Yearwood says the fire may have been deliberately set.
Sgt. Fitzroy Yearwood, Police Press Officer
“That vehicle was put on fire. When police and fire personnel responded a little after four this morning it was totally destroyed. We know we are investigating who would want to set a vehicle on fire owned by a female but like you know and investigators know this vehicle is not solely used by the owner. So it gives us another spin but we have to investigate and check all different angles also. We have ruled this as a deliberate case of arson but for us to get out there and say who did it we would have to rely on eyewitnesses or maybe somebody heard something because of course that vehicle had to had to have some banging effect before it burned completely.”

“We understand that the vehicle was used in the transportation of Justin Roches [to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital] when he was shot a few days ago. Can you speak to us your knowledge of that?”
Sgt. Fitzroy Yearwood
“Well the Justin Roches case is a murder investigation and I wouldn’t want to comment on that.”
Belize City police have not been able to make any arrests in connection with the arson. There’s another case of suspected arson. A wooden house on Gill Street was gutted by fire on Thursday. The building, which is owned by Carolyn Garcia, was vacant and had no electricity.
