Burglary suspect is chopped by intended victim
Ever think about what it would be like to catch a burglar in the act? A Burrell Boom man not only caught a thief in his house, but he also subdued him with a well-placed stroke of the machete. Thirty-four year old Derrick Davis told police that around two-thirty on the morning of November eighteenth he was awakened by a noise and grabbed his machete to investigate. When Davis entered the living room he saw a flashlight beam and aimed a chop at its point of origin. After Davis turned on the lights he found fellow villager, forty-six year old Stanton Gillett, bleeding from his right arm. Following a stint in the hospital, Gillett was pronounced fit to stand trial and was today charged with burglary. He pleaded not guilty, but after considering Gillett’s seven prior convictions, Magistrate Sharon Fraser denied bail and remanded him to prison until January twenty-fourth.
