Jealous husband fatally ambushes taxi driver wife
A little less than a year ago Belize was rocked by a string of murders committed by jealous men against women they ostensibly loved. Today history repeated itself on the lonely road between Hattieville and Burrell Boom. News Five’s Marion Ali has the tragic story.

Police have another brutal murder upon their hands tonight, this time, another case of a domestic affair gone sour. The incident occurred on the Boom Hattieville Road near the prison and claimed the life of forty year-old Raquel Requena. The suspect, Glenford “Bucket” Bermudez, an ex-B.D.F. soldier, reportedly followed Requena, who runs a taxi between Hattieville and the prison.
Requena had reportedly just picked up a fare at the prison when she was shot once in the head with a shotgun. The passenger, scared for her life, reportedly fled. Inspector Calbert Flowers said the suspect also tried to hang himself afterwards at a dumpsite near the entrance to Burrell Boom Village.

“We are in the process of getting information from some guys who knew him and apparently rescued him from committing suicide.”
Marion Ali
“I understand just from raw information that I picked up out here that the bullet had to have been fired from another vehicle or at least from the side windows, it did not penetrate any of the windshields.”
Inspector Calbert Flowers
“I cannot say for certain at this time but we knew that suspect was in a vehicle but we do not know exactly how the incident happened.”
Marion Ali
“And there was a witness inside the victim’s vehicle as well?”
Inspector Calbert Flowers
“I am not sure, that is what we learned but we haven’t spoken with anyone who was in the vehicle or any eyewitness at this time.”
Police have since detained Bermudez, who met Requena’s nephew, Glen Fuller, told Fuller what he had just done, then asked him for the rope. Fuller said he never believed Bermudez at first, but was the one who ended up saving him from committing suicide.

Although the news came as a shock to Requena’s oldest daughter, Floreth Requena, she said her mother had previously received numerous death threats from a jealous Bermudez. The most recent occurred about two weeks ago just before Bermudez moved out of her mother’s house.
