B.D.F. and San Pedro draw in RFG Cup play
Good evening, I’m James Adderley you’re welcome to this rush of Sports Monday. Week seven in the RFG Cup Tournament saw the Belize Defence Force make its stand at the M.C.C. Grounds against the San Pedro Dolphins who came in yesterday intent on swimming up the standings.
So it’s no surprise to see the visitors launch the first real shot at goal from long distance. At the other end, Deon Flowers creates this scoring opportunity for Azizi Swazo, who fails to find the back of the net. A few minutes later, this screamer from David McCauley just inches outside the woodwork. The Dolphins then go to Luis Uribio for some offence, but the left foot fails to bend for him.
In the meantime folks, do Mark Laredo and Victor Nunez know they’re wearing the same uniform? Inform them quickly please. This set piece gives Derys Benavides an opportunity to find Mario Seconga, but the striker’s first touch is regrettable.
Folks the B.D.F. should have gained a penalty kick when goalkeeper Derrol Roaches puts this hurt on Azizi Swazo, but the referee disagrees and of course he rules. We must say Seconga set table perfect for Gabriel Hicks right here who promptly applies for a pilot license. We’re forty-one minutes in when this B.D.F. spotkick is kept alive by Deon Flowers to a streaking Deon McCauley, who scores with the right foot while going left. The Dolphins try for the equaliser before intermission when Derys Benavides checks in on Charlie Slusher, who handles but not very convincingly.
In the opening moments of second half, Luis Uribio uses the cover of the falling rain to test the skills of Charlie Slusher, who passes easily. Undoubtedly, it’s the San Pedro team in the ascendancy as Seconga gets two chances at goal and still comes up empty. At the sixty-second minute, this defensive misplay gives possession to a lurking Gabriel Hicks whose one-eighty left foot launch ties the ballgame at one apiece. That’s the way this one would end.
In other action from around the league Wagiya whipped Santels 4-1 at the Norman Broaster Stadium. Suga Boys Juventus and Georgetown Ibayani settled for a 2-all draw at O.W., and Daniel Jimenez’s hat-trick burned the Revolutionary Conquerors 3-2 in front of the home fans. Week eight’s schedule will find Ibayani and F.C. Belize Saturday seven p.m. at Independence, while on Sunday the San Pedro Dolphins will host Santels, Juventus travels to Hanhook Verdes, and it’s Wagiya against the Conquerors at Griga.
Looking at the standings going into week eight, Wagiya leads with 11 points from 3 wins, 2 draws, and 1 loss. Verdes and the B.D.F. both show 10 points apiece, Santels sits at fourth with 9 points. The Conquerors and F.C. Belize are tied with 8 points apiece. Both Juventus and San Pedro show 7 points each, while Georgetown remains in the celler with 5 points.
