Oil company replaces Calla Creek hammock bridge

Story PictureViewers may recall a story we ran last month in which Jacqueline Godwin reported on the hardship caused by the destruction of a hammock bridge near the village of Calla Creek in the Cayo District. The loss of the bridge, which succumbed to heavy flooding, prevented residents from attending school and reaching their workplaces, as well as subjecting them to the risks associated with crossing the Mopan River in a dory. That situation has now been corrected as Belize Natural Energy, under the supervision of the Ministry of Works, has provided the materials and skilled labour to completely rebuild the span, making it even better than before the flood. The construction work took less than a week and forms part of the oil company’s programme of supporting the communities in those areas where it is involved in petroleum production and exploration.
