Protected Areas Commission holds first meeting

Story PictureThe newly appointed National Protected Areas Commission held its first meeting today in Belmopan. The body will advise the ministers responsible for protected areas and coordinate the various public, private, and civil society groups that administer the nation’s diverse parks and reserves. Members of the commission are co-chairs Chief Forest Officer Wilbert Sabido and Fisheries Administrator Beverly Wade, Edilberto Romero, Lindsay Garbutt, Trevor Roe, Emily Waight Aldana, Noreen Fairweather, Greg Ch’oc, Jaime Awe, Tracy Taegar-Panton, Julian Lewis, and Florentino Pop. The inaugural meeting was addressed by Minister of Natural Resources Florencio Marin and reviewed the commission’s responsibilities and operational framework
