F.C. Belize tops Juventus in RFG Cup action

Story PictureGood evening I’m James Adderley and you’ve logged on to this thing we call Sports Monday.
Week VI of the RFG Cup Tournament brought the surging Suga Boys Juventus of O.W. to the M.C.C. Grounds for its scheduled shoot-out with the defending champion F.C. Belize who find themselves struggling to get into the top four at this juncture.

Of course we would be remiss not to remind you that star goalkeeper Woodrow West of Dangriga now wears the colours of O.W.’s Juventus.

Woodrow’s first test comes when this centre floats past the danger zone forcing him to intervene.

At the other end Donnie Tun finds Dennis Cerrano of UNCAF fame but Cerrano fails to execute the finish off the left side.

Nevertheless folks its F.C. Belize with the first open look at goal but the fans groan when Kenroy Martin launches outside the near post.

This time Kenroy Martin attacks from the right side with the results obviously unchanged.

In the meantime the Suga Boys should have gotten on the scoreboard when Dean Flowers gets this chance with the right foot that produces a high riser.

Downfield Jeromy James gets his chance to do his thing but the left foot disappoints while the O.W. keeper lets his anger be felt and at the half it’s a nil-nil ballgame.

We’re in the opening moments of second half when Dennis Cerrano fires this left foot screamer that forces the F.C. keeper into a big time scare.

F.C. responds with this full chance to score from point blank range and indeed Germaine Zuniga should have put it home.

Dean Flowers immediately counters for Juventus with this nice move, only the finish is lacking.

According to the chronometer of the referee we’re at the seventieth minute of play when Germaine Zuniga pushes the pill across the goal mouth. Defenseman Kenny Canul commits the dreaded atto goal and Belize goes up 1-zip.

Eight minutes later Germaine Zuniga finds himself unguarded and he smacks the pill home as F.C. Belize goes on to post the 2-zip big W in regulation.

In other results from around the league Revolutionary Conquerors blanked Georgetown Ibayani 2-zip, Hankook Verdes beat Santels by that same score while Wagiya of Dangriga and the B.D.F. battled to a scoreless stalemate.

Thus the standings after six weeks looks like this: the B.D.F., with 9 points, leads the league on goal difference as Santels also shows 9 points. Conquerors, F.C. Belize and Wagiya have all tallied 8 points a piece; Verdes has 7 points; Juventus and the San Pedro Dolphins show 6 a piece while Ibayani finds itself in the cellar with 4 points.

On Saturday’s schedule, Santels will host Wagiya out West at 7:30 p.m. while on Sunday Georgetown visits Juventus, Hankook Verdes travels to Conquerors and the B.D.F. will come to take on the San Pedro Dolphins inside the M.C.C. Grounds.

Now let’s check in on the Super League Semi-pro Football play from over the weekend and we’re inside the M.C.C. Grounds for Saturday night’s showdown between Forever String Krall Road and Adventures.

We’re ten minutes into the second half when Adventurers keeper fails to corral this centre off the right wing-Delroy Andrews heads it home for the 1-zip lead.

This gets Andrews really going and he wants more so he beats two and plays the give and go with Raymond Gentle as he strike for his second goal of the match.

Make it a hat trick when Lorenzo Diaz keeps this ball alive for Delroy Andrews who knows what to do with it.

At the seventieth minute this corner kick causes the rebound to fall for Lorenzo Diaz who converts-Forever Strong Krall Road goes on to post the 4-zip W.
