Police seek driver in fatal hit & run in Toledo

Tonight Punta Gorda police are looking for the driver involved in a deadly hit and run accident on the Southern Highway over the weekend. Reports are that around two-thirty on Sunday morning the P.G. football team was returning from a game in Belmopan but as the driver approached the Big Falls Bridge, he spotted the body of a man lying in the road. We understand it was a gruesome scene as severe head and body injuries had left the victim unrecognizable. When investigators showed up at the scene, they determined that while the bus was not responsible for the carnage, the extent of the wounds suggested that the deceased had been run over more than once. The victim was transported to the Punta Gorda hospital where he was identified as thirty year old Raymond Robateau. Residents of Big Falls have reported that Robateau was spotted earlier that night drinking at the local bars and it is believed the victim was run over as he was attempting to cross the bridge. Robateau is originally from Santa Elena in the Cayo District but several of his relatives reside in Big Falls. If you have any information that can assist police in their investigation, please contact the nearest station or call Crimestoppers at 0-800-922-8477.
