Fatal shooting at prison; facility on lockdown

Prison and police officials are investigating the fatal shooting of a prison inmate at the Hattieville Correctional Facility today. Chief Executive Officer at the Prison, Marlon Skeen, told News Five this evening that the incident occurred around three o’clock this afternoon while the prisoners were on recreational break near the Maximum security area of the prison. The deceased, Gilroy “Hootie” Wade, was reportedly socializing when he was shot in the head. Authorities believe the gunman was a fellow inmate and have placed the facility on total lockdown until they can determine how it happened. Prison officials believe the weapon, a point thirty-eight revolver, was smuggled into the compound recently but a silencer used in the shooting is thought to be homemade. How the weapon got into the facility without having been detected is what both police and prison authorities are focusing on. Prison officials had conducted several searches on the compound after they received information that a gun was smuggled into the facility but their investigations were fruitless. Gilroy Wade was on death row for a murder he committed several years ago. We are informed that he has recently been involved in several fights with other prisoners. The overcrowded facility currently houses a population of around fourteen hundred, and late reports from behind the walls indicate that police Dragon unit personnel are going through the prison using extreme force in the course of their investigation.
