…but a loaded AK47 would have been lethal

Belize City Police are not saying what kind of a mission they believe three suspects may have been on when their vehicle was intercepted by a police mobile patrol but what the officers found inside the car may have caught them by surprise. Authorities say around eight-thirty on Tuesday night they observed a grey Pontiac Bonneville on Central American Boulevard travelling from the direction of Cemetery Road toward Iguana Street. The cops decided to pursue the suspicious looking car and with the assistance of other mobile patrols it was finally intercepted on Madam Liz Street. That is when police say they saw two men leave the vehicle and escape into a nearby swamp. When police searched it, they found inside twenty-nine year old Winston Jones who just happened to be wearing a bullet proof vest. Also inside the car was an AK forty-seven rifle loaded with twenty-seven live rounds of seven point sixty-five ammunition and a plastic bag containing twenty-two more bullets. The police also discovered in the immediate area a Glock brand magazine containing thirty, nine-millimetre rounds. Winston Jones was detained and is being held at the Queen Street Station. Police subsequently detained twenty-seven year old James Brown and are looking for a third suspect.
