Two shootings, no fatalities…
Belize City police believe it was jealousy that caused one childhood friend to shoot another. The drama unfolded around ten-thirty on Tuesday morning outside the home of Elizabeth Martinez. Police investigations reveal that Martinez was sitting in her yard talking with twenty-eight year old Eric Jones when twenty-seven year old Norris Martinez, no relation to the woman, rode up to the Aloe Vera Street residence and fired three shots at the couple. Luckily no one was injured but one of the bullets bored through a portion of the plywood structure. According to Jones, Ms. Martinez is his girlfriend and the police believe the other Martinez may have also had a romantic interest in the woman. Today Norris Martinez was expected to be charged with the crime of aggravated assault.
While Belize City police were able to make an arrest in Tuesday’s shooting, they have yet to apprehend the man involved in another incident earlier that day. Twenty year old Clifton Flores, who declined to be interviewed by the media, lies in a stable condition at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital recovering from a couple of bullet wounds. Police report that Flores was shot around six-forty-five yesterday morning while he was at the home of Marlon Aranda. The friends were on Freedom Street when a small white four-door car with heavily tinted windows stopped in front of them. According to Flores, the vehicle’s driver then pointed a firearm in their direction and fired several shots. Flores was hit in both of his legs while Aranda escaped unhurt. Police say at this time they have neither suspects nor motive.
