Arrest made in armed robbery
Two months after a Belize City businessman was shot during a botched robbery, police have made an arrest in the case. On Friday, twenty year old Marlon Jones was charged with Attempted Murder, Use of Deadly Means of Harm and Grievous Harm. The accused was remanded to Hattieville Prison until December eleventh. Apparently Jones had been wanted for questioning since the August fourth shooting of Deepak Gidwani but cops only caught up with him last week. Investigators allege Jones was one of two men who walked into VRJ’s Fast Food on West Canal armed with a handgun and demanded money from Gidwani. But instead of pulling out cash, the proprietor produced his licensed thirty-eight revolver. During the ensuing shootout in the street, a bullet struck Gidwani in the abdomen. He spent two weeks in hospital but has fully recovered from the injury. Police say they continue to search for the second suspect in the crime.
