Dangriga pageant promotes high school unity
Over the weekend, high-schoolers from across the country travelled to Dangriga to participate in the Miss Teen Orchid pageant. Fourteen contestants, hailing from schools in Belize City, Punta Gorda, Belmopan, and Benque Viejo took centre stage at the Father Marin Parish Hall on Saturday night where they competed in talent, costume, evening wear and interview segments. But when the votes were tallied, Delille Academy student Kiya Caballero took first place. Robin Gray of Independence High was second and Gwen Lizarraga’s Kiasha Bevans rounded out the top three. The event was hosted by Miss Teen Stann Creek Jelissa Gillett as a community service project to unite the nation’s high schools.
