U.S.A. undertakes Construction for Children Home

The U.S Military Liaison Office through the U.S Department of Defense’s Humanitarian Assistance Program (HAP) is embarking on several projects throughout Belize. Over a million Belize dollars will be spent in renovating and expanding school facilities. The project got underway at the Dorothy Menzies Child Care Center, which will benefit from a new wing. The U.S Ambassador to Belize, Vinai Thummalapally broke ground for the center family care building.

“The amazing thing is the building addition that’s gonna happen, it’s gonna increase the capacity of this wonderful institution to where more kids will get benefits and many of you know, there is always a need. The need is always there and the demand for such services is far greater than the supply that’s there.”

“It’ll be an annex right next to where you see this drain, it will start up right there and it will go from there. It will be a small two-storey building and downstairs we will have the office and upstairs it will be for the children. They can study, they can be counseled. We really need the space because we have about usually sixty children and we really don’t have the space so this will help us for a while because we keep getting more children as the country grows.”

“While they are here we really do want to try to provide the best care possible for them and to help them and their families to rehabilitate and to go on with their lives. And what’s what really this building that we will be receiving helps to signifies. It really helps us to provide better quality programs.”

The projects include construction of bathroom facilities at Hattieville Government School and Belize Rural High, refurbishing of library at Las Flores School and construction of recreational facilities at Julian Cho.
