Belizeans win medals in Special Olympics
Marion Jones may be giving her medals back but that doesn’t mean that Belize is devoid of Olympic gold. A release from Belize’s team at The World Special Olympics in Shanghai, China indicates that Belizean athletes have earned four medals in various events: three bronze and one gold. The gold came today in the male two hundred meter run when thirteen year old Michael Graham hit the finish line ahead of competitors from seven other countries with a time of thirty point five-three seconds. Earlier in the day nine year old Chevane Madrill took two bronze medals in the twenty-five and fifty meter sprints, while seventeen year old Stephawn Hines earned bronze in the softball throw. The fourth member of the Belizean team, Christine Rhaburn, was sidelined after suffering an injury in the preliminary eliminations. The closing ceremonies take place Friday and the delegation returns home on October twenty-second following an extended week of sightseeing.
