Result of viewer poll on B.D.F. duties

In light of the recent burglary at the Belize Defence Force weapon’s store as well as previous incidents where firearms went missing from the B.D.F., we asked viewers if they have confidence in our armed forces to protect our borders. Seventy-five percent of persons who participated in the online poll said no, while twenty-five percent still believe that the B.D.F. can keep the borders safe. One of the comments on our blog reads “if one cannot even protect and keep its own assets safe, you cannot depend on him to do an additional job. Presently, the B.D.F. can barely handle the streets of Belize City.” Meanwhile, another blogger put the onus squarely on G.O.B., saying I think the B.D.F. can defend our borders, but the Government needs to provide them with the much needed resources instead of focusing on other unimportant things.”
