Father charged in house fire that killed son
It’s a decision too many parents are making these days … and young children left home alone can all too often mean big trouble. That’s exactly what happened ten days ago in Independence Village when a two year old boy left unattended died in a house fire. But tonight one of that child’s parents is charged with a crime. According to police, twenty-eight year old Remijio Lorenzo Martinez has been formally accused of Causing Death by Careless Conduct. On September twenty-ninth, two year old Raheem Martinez was left inside his lumber and palmetto home with a mosquito coil burning. It is believed that somehow the lit repellent started the fire but the flames consumed the structure so fast, neighbours could do nothing to save the child. Martinez appeared in court today where he was granted bail in the amount of five thousand dollars. The case against him has been adjourned until November eighth.
