Two charged in separate shootings
And while investigators search for the man who shot Louis Maskall, police have another problem on their hands. In less than two weeks, two separate mobile patrols have been fired upon by armed assailants. The latest incident took place around ten-thirty on Friday night on Central American boulevard. According to the officers, they were on patrol on Gill Street when they heard gunshots. When they went to investigate, the cops say they saw a man on a bicycle fleeing the scene. They set chase and that’s when the officer says the suspect turned and fired at them several times. He escaped, but was later identified as nineteen year old Kyle Murillo. Cops caught up with him the next day and he is tonight charged with Attempted Murder. The incident follows a similar one that took place five days ago involving Brandon Taylor. Taylor, in the company of his attorney, turned himself in to authorities this morning and was also charged with Attempted Murder. Today Deputy Commander of Eastern Division, Senior Superintendent Chester Williams, says both incidents are being taken very seriously.
Sr. Supt. Chester Williams, Dep. Commander, Eastern Division
“We have seen an increase in people being bold enough to shoot after the police and as a police officer and the deputy commander of this formation we are very concerned of it because our officers have a life, they have families that they need to take care of and we would always tell our officers to ensure that they go home safe to their families after they have completed a tour of duty. So those persons who have the propensity of shooting after police officers I will say to them that they are taking a very serious risk. We are arming our police officers because we understand what they are going through on the streets and as a department tasked with the responsibility of preserving law and order we will ensure that law and order is maintained by whatever means necessary. And while we train our police officers to act professional we must also understand that these officers are out on the streets and they know what they are going through.”
“And they are young people, very, very young people. I don’t know what they are thinking. If for some reason they believe that they could shoot at the police and could get away with it and I will emphatically say that they have the wrong concept because we will go after them.”
