Popular Karaoke DJ wounded in shooting

Story PictureAnd back to those non-fatal shootings … The latest victim is a popular singer and as I found out this morning, his quick reflexes may have saved his life.

Louis Maksall, Shooting Victim
“Right after the KTV 2003, a lot of individuals came up to me and started looking up to me and whereby entertainment is concerned and I have been sending out positive message to youths and that allowed me as person only to do better.”

Jacqueline Godwin, Reporting
He may be best known as KTV’s 2003 Champion but tonight twenty-seven year old Louis Maskall is trying to figure out who would want him dead.

Maskall is admitted to ward in the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital tonight, recovering from a gunshot wound to the right side of his chest. Around eight fifteen on Saturday night Maskall was sitting on one of the bleachers at the Cumberbatch Field on Cesar Ridge Road when a lone gun man walked up to him and placed a gun to the middle of his forehead.

Louis Maksall
“He came up to me and the only thing I remember him saying was ”remember me?” And he had a shirt over his face and a blue jersey pant. At the moment when he raised his hands, I kind of saw the gun before he put it to my face and I kind of had an opportunity to knock it away and in that process it went off hitting me in the right side of my chest.”

Maskall was lucky, the bullet missed all his vital organs and exited through the back.

Louis Maksall
“A miracle. It went through and kind of went around all the organs that it did not want to hit and came out through the back. So it was an entry and exit so they did not have to do any surgery on me.”

“One question “remember me?” That’s all he said and after he pulled the trigger and I got hit, I fell. He ran off but I got up and I ran right around the corner where my girlfriend apartment is and within a minute, minute and half or so the police was on the scene and they brought me to the hospital.”

The injury has caused internal bleeding and clotting which doctors have been removing through a tube that had to be inserted to the young man’s torso.

Louis Maksall
“We are going to take a couple of x-ray later on and see more less when my release date but more than likely…I don’t really feel any pain where my ribs or where my bones is concerned but just for precaution they are keeping me here and keeping me under observation.”

But why would anyone want to kill Louis Maskall? According to the karaoke dj, the shooting may be the result of an old beef with someone that occurred more than eight years ago.

Louis Maksall
“Louis Maskall is no angel and I have been involved in lots of fits fights and I really do not know who it is. I think if the police would give me a photograph of whosoever they have apprehended then I would be able to say whether or not I have had an encounter with that individual.”

“I have been out of trouble for quite some while now ever since…quite some while I’ve been out of that. I have been busy with working, the whole DJ business. I really don’t have time to be involved in any of those misunderstandings so as I said probably an old past, old beef came and kind of grab me at the wrong time.”

According to Deputy Commander of Eastern Division Senior Superintendent Chester Williams, police recovered an expended nine millimetre shell at the crime scene and what is believed to be the weapon used in the incident from a nearby location.

Sr. Supt. Chester Williams, Dep. Commander, Eastern Division
“We are looking at several persons that we may want to interview. We have a suspect in custody but we are trying to tie him down based on evidence. We haven’t got the basic evidence that we would need in order to effect an arrest on that person but the C.I.B. office along with the officers involved in the daily routine operations are working diligently to try and see how best we could get the necessary evidence to arrest someone in relation to the matter against Mister Louis Maskall.”

“We have a weapon which we believe is the weapon of choice used in that particular crime and I must say that the public, the assistance from the citizenry within the area was very excellent and it aided us to been able to recover the nine millimetre pistol.”

As for Maskall? He says although someone did try to kill him, he won’t let the incident distract him from continue doing good for the community

Louis Maksall
“Life goes on and I won’t go back looking for who that person is. I would like to know why but as far as I am concerned, I am going to leave that up to the police and so I don’t think he or his family have no fear of me retaliating because you don’t fight fire with fire because then it would be constant killing you know.”
