Mayors, councillors participate in 2-day workshop
In other political news, today mayors, city councillors, and municipal administrators from across the country gathered in Belize City for a two-day workshop designed to help them do a better job. According to Director of Local Government, Eugene Palacio, the idea is to make sure everyone knows their roles and responsibilities.

“The first day will be more relationship based training, discussions dealing with the elected members, the relations they have with themselves and some of the problems that come out of that because we feel that some of the problems that have been manifesting themselves lately is a result of that. And then the other part in terms of relationships will deal with relationship with the elected body and the employees. So we will have the Labour Commissioner discussing terms and conditions of employment with the Government Workers’ Rule and specifically later this evening we’ll be dealing with severance benefits, pension and retirement gratuity.”
“The second day we’ll deal with planning and budgeting and mobilization of revenue because if yuh noh plan yuh noh know weh you going and the budget fu set out how you wah achieve the plan and then you need fu get the money, so mobilisation of revenue tomorrow.”
The workshop is being hosted at the Princess Hotel in Belize City.
