190 people take oath of allegiance to Belize
As Meighan settles into her duties, we’re pretty sure she’ll be checking her voters list and tonight there’s a good chance that total number has already gone up by almost two hundred people following a special ceremony in Belmopan earlier this week. On Thursday, Immigration and Nationality officials took the oath of one hundred and ninety men and women, which formally made them Belizean citizens. This was the second largest group to take the oath of allegiance to Belize since 2003. Commissioner of the Supreme Court Winston Smiling, Minister Rodwell Ferguson, and Minister of State in the Ministry of Works, Ainslie Leslie handed out the certificates. A person is eligible to become a Belizean if he or she has lived in Belize for five years or if he or she is married to a Belizean and has resided here for more than a year. This week’s ceremony took place at the George Price Centre for Peace and Development.
