SJC Principal happy about CXC Results

Echoing happy sentiments is SJC’s headmaster Yolanda Gongora. Gongora says that the hard work they have put in has paid off.

“I know that the boys really worked hard and at the end of the day the work that they put is what they will reap when they complete the four years at the institution. As a Jesuit institution, I believe that the five things that a Jesuit graduate or a student attends are the pillars that we would want our young men to have at the end of the four years. As a school we are very proud. We would consider ourselves the premier school—not really prestigious, because there is a lot that we need for this school—but premier because excellence is one of the things that we work hard on here, academics and spiritual as well. So we are all happy as an institution to be on top again.”

“I know that last year St. John’s had the number one student in the country of Belize and the region. Was there an additional stress on the school or additional work put in to again walk away with this title?”

“Well definitely. The young men were looking forward to another win; they wanted to go abroad to accept this award because this year it would have been that the student who topped the highest would have been the guest speaker. Unfortunately that didn’t happen but we are proud for what we did here for Belize.”

“I know that this is your first year here at this institution. What was it like working with the boys over the past year?”

“It was something new; it was a challenge. I was a principal before but not of an all boys school. But it is a beauty to work with young men—young men that can see that there are values and morals that we can all have in order for us to be successful. It is a challenge, but nonetheless a happy one.”
Another student, Ravesh Sukhnandan, also from SJC Junior College, was recognized as the Most Outstanding Student in the CAPE exams. The students will be recognized at the Ministry of Education’s official awards ceremony in November.
