Western Highway accident claims third victim
Meanwhile, a third person has died as a result of Wednesday’s traffic accident near Belmopan. According to police, around five this morning thirty-two year old Ana Cannasales succumbed to her injuries at the Western Regional Hospital. The young mother was one of seven people who were hurt when the driver of the pickup they were travelling in lost control and the vehicle flipped over several times. Cannasales’ infant daughter, eleven month old Martha Barrera was flung from the cab and died shortly after arriving at the emergency room. The child’s father, thirty-six year old Juan Barrera was also critically injured in the crash and died at the scene. The couple’s three other children aged fifteen, eleven, and seven are tonight in the care of their grandmother. Another passenger in the pickup truck, thirty-one year old Darwin Monroy, remains admitted to the surgical ward of the K.H.M.H. in a critical condition. The driver, Andon Pott is also hospitalised and police say their investigations into the cause of the crash continue.
