Good Samaritan helps collar Stann Creek mugger
Yesterday was no ordinary day at work for one field hand as he went about his chores in an orange grove on the Stann Creek Valley Road. It seems that around eight-thirty in the morning a robber pounced on a woman near the mile six bus stop and stole her purse containing personal belongings worth over six hundred dollars. The victim, thirty-seven year old Marcelina Morales, reported to police that she was awaiting a bus when a man approached her, grabbed her blouse, and demanded her gold chain. They struggled and her attacker grabbed the chain and her purse which contained her cell phone and other belongings. The assailant then ran off through a nearby field of fruit trees. However, Morales’ luck took a turn for the better when the citrus worker set chase after her attacker and managed to retrieve her purse and its contents. When police arrived they detained the suspected robber, identified as thirty-three year old Alvin Lopez of Sarawee Village. He has since been charged with Robbery.
