Rufus, Mose targeted by intimidators
He is a well known media personality operating out of the Kremandala organisation, best known for his extreme opinions on a variety of subjects. And tonight it appears that someone has a serious beef with Rufus X … a grudge strong enough to risk an attack on a man who doesn’t frighten easily.

“It won’t slow down Rufus X. Rufus X has no fear for his life because as you know this Martin Luther King once said, I have no fear, I have seen the mountain and Rufus X has seen the suffering form the people so why should I fear?”

Controversial Krem radio and T.V. talk show host Rufus X had just finished appearing on Tuesday night’s Kremandala Show when he was attacked shortly after arriving home.

“As a matter of fact I was inside my gate when I open my driver’s side door to exit the car, one guy was standing exactly at the passenger side door on the same side and he announced my name, Rufus X? As if in a question like manner and when I nod my head, he start a vicious attack on me immediately with a piece of iron. An iron about eighteen inches long and about three inches wide, quarter inch thick and start whopping me but luckily I have the car, I had the car to shield me a bit you know. But I was defending with my left hand, it was the left part of my body that he was attacking and he broke my hand in two places and bruised me up badly in the body, on the left side of my body.”
Today we caught up with Rufus X as he was waiting at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital to see an Orthopaedic specialist. According to X he believes if he did not hit the remote control for the gate that had started to close, his injuries would have been worse.

“And the gate was closing in on him and when the gate was about three feet from locking up he just dashed out you know.”
Although Rufus X offered no evidence to support his claim he believes the attack may have been politically motivated.

“Well, Jacqueline it is clearly politics. I have examined every corner and I come to the conclusion and it is not even a guessing game. I am not about to be talking about it now but it is not a guessing game. I know exactly where these people came from.”
The attack comes just five days after another incident involving KREM Wake Up Belize Morning Vibes talk show host Evan “Mose” Hyde. According to the Amandala Newspaper, in the early morning hours of Friday, Hyde was awakened by the sounds of gunshots but Hyde reportedly did not see anything suspicious and returned to bed. It was not until later that morning around six-thirty that he found out someone had not only smashed the window of his vehicle but two glass bottles containing fuel soaked rags were left on the passenger seat. Hyde, who declined an on camera interview, told News Five that both incidents have now led him to believe that the media house is being targeted but Hyde would not comment further on the matter. Rufus X too believes that the attacks have been a deliberate attempt to intimidate media personalities who choose to speak out against what he refers to corruption.

“It is not only Kremandala. Other journalists will meet the same fate if in fact they speak out against corruption in this country.”
“All we are doing is reporting the facts. We are talking about things that are going on around us that is affecting our people.”
No suspects in either incident have been detained.
