PUP celebrates 57 years as political organisation
As we reported in our newscast on Thursday night, this Saturday the People’s United Party will celebrate fifty-seven years as a political organization. According to officials, the milestone will be commemorated across the country with a series of symbolic events including rallies, athletic activities and tributes to party stalwarts.
Yasser Musa, Communications Director, P.U.P.
“It’s a big deal in the sense that we have to look back and reflect but we’ve always been a party of change, a party that looks forward, a party that wants to see new ideas. If you look beyond our party leader, there are many young leaders emerging in our party and they have a huge responsibility, the same way Said Musa had a responsibility taking over the mantle of George Price, but yes he has to bring certain strong and positive achievements from the past but then you have to correct and move forward and offer the new vision and I think that’s the challenge we have to face in front of us, who has the talent, which party will have the capability to govern in a complex environment It’s a new globalized environment out. I work with a lot of young technically gifted people at Positive Vibes, and in Image Factory. But our challenge now as the youths will be what are the messages, what are philosophies that we take from our elders and what is it, how do we want to project that.”
“So we have to know how to translate great ideas, concepts, principles into action and we believe we are the action party from 1950 to 2007 and beyond. We have a party like an umbrella, a big tent, there is not always unity in terms of ideas and in terms of how people view certain things but in terms of the national project, in terms of moving Belize forward, in terms of trying to create jobs, there is not disunity in that, in terms of introducing the teaching of African and Mayan history, there is not disunity in that. So we have to find the common things that unite us, so the answer is yes, we are united.”
