Blue Creek couple die in tragic accident
Orange Walk police do not suspect foul play in the death of a Mennonite couple. Around five on Saturday evening the bodies of thirty one year old Aganetha Rempel and her husband twenty nine year old Samuel Rempel were found inside a large water vat situated on the family’s property in the Blue Creek Community.
The discovery was made by forty-five year old Abraham Rempel who had gone to visit his brother. Rempel told police that after his brother did not respond to his calls he went around the house looking for him. That is when he heard the sound of a motor running. According to Rempel as he made further checks to see where the sound was coming from, he peeped inside the cistern where he saw the body of his sister in law laying face up in approximately a foot and a half of water. Shortly after Rempel says he discovered his brother’s corpse lying face down in the water. When the bodies were retrieved, there were no signs of visible injuries. Investigations reveal that the sound of the motor was coming from a pressure washer that the couple was using to clean the vat and it is believed the Rempels were overcome by toxic fumes. A post mortem revealed that both Samuel and Aganetha Rempel died from asphyxia after inhaling Carbon Monoxide. Tomorrow the young couple would have celebrated their ninth anniversary.
