Shopkeeper shoots back at robbers; kills one
Meanwhile Belize City police say their investigations reveal that Chinese businessman forty year old Sheng Lin Li was acting in self defence when he shot and killed twenty three year old Keon Villanueva better known as ’Piggy.” The shooting occurred at the Faber’s Snack Shop around six forty on Thursday evening. According to the authorities when they arrived on the scene they saw Villanueva’s body with a black rag over his face lying face down in a pool of blood with what appeared to be a gunshot wound to the forehead. The police also observed a silver coloured thirty eight revolver about two feet away from the body. Police Investigations have revealed that Sheng was inside his establishment along with a customer when three masked young men entered the shop. Two of the suspects were armed with handguns. It is believed that Villanueva, in an attempt to rob the store owner, opened fire as he entered the building. Sheng then pulled out his licensed nine millimetre pistol and fired a single shot after which the weapon jammed. After Villanueva fell to the floor his accomplice reportedly then shot at Sheng and fled from the shop. According to the officer in charge of Belize City Crimes Investigation Branch, Superintendent Aaron Guzman, the case file will be sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions who will decide whether or not any charges will be levied against the businessman.
Supt. Aaron Guzman – O.C CIB, Belize City
“In defence of his property and his business he returned fire at someone who had fired on him as the deceased firearm had one expended shell in it, a thirty-eight and that is a decision that will be made by the D.P.P. As it stands right now, we will compile that case file and submit it to the Director of Public Prosecutions if and when he decides on it then his decision will be the decision we will go by.”
At the scene police recovered nine, nine millimetre expended shells and one Cobra brand point thirty eight revolver with five live rounds and one expended shell.
