City murder may be gang related

Story PictureReports of death threats turned very real for the family of twenty-seven year old Hubert Faber Jr. who was gunned down around midnight Saturday night on Iguana Street Extension in Belize City. According to family members and friends who did not wish to appear on camera, they strongly believe that Faber was killed by someone who first lured him out of his vehicle and then fired several shots at him as he stood to the rear of the Toyota Tacoma. Belize City police say at this time they do not know why Faber was killed but are investigating a report that the murder may be connected to the ongoing violence between rival groups and that Faber was on a list of persons to be executed. According to those who knew the victim, they do not know why anyone would want their loved one dead but that Faber had received numerous calls advising him to watch his back.

Voice of murder victim’s sister
“from what people told us, he was at a party and he just left suddenly, not telling anybody where he was going; he just left. And when we got the news that he was near a house that he was building and the vehicle was left open and the engine was still on and the tailgate from the vehicle was down so it seems as if though they called him there and it was somebody that he knew.”

Voice of family friend
“The police told me personally because they picked me up on a little misdemeanour so they asked me if he was my family and I said yes and they said he was playing in choppy waters and before the year out, he would be dead, and somebody with a known name would have killed him, that’s what they told me.”

Voice of murder victim’s sister
