Queen of the Bay contestants prepare for competition

Story PictureIt’s time for the annual Queen of the Bay. The pageant takes place this Saturday night at the Belize City Centre. Ten delegates will compete in poise, eloquence and elegance to be crowned the sixty-fourth Queen of the Bay. The contestants hoping to take home the traditional crown and scepter represent various districts and the city. Each hope to capture the crown from reigning Queen, Karima Card. News Five caught up with the delegates as they prepared for Saturday’s event.

Kiasha Bevans, Ms. Jane Usher Boulevard
“My name is Kiasha Bevans and I am Miss Jane Usher Boulevard. What I’m going to bring is grace and traits of an empress. And I definitely hope to win I’m not going to say I am gonna win. I am crossing my fingers and pray that I’m going to win.”

Francine Francis, Ms. Belmopan
“I’m Francine Francis and I am representing our lovely garden city, Belmopan. I feel that my intelligence, my personality and everything that embodies me will set me apart from everybody else.”

Aracely Cahueque, Ms. Corozal
“My name is Aracely Cahueque and I am representing Queen of the Bay Corozal.”

“What is it that you feel you are going to bring to the competition to seal the crown for you?”

“I feel that I will bring passion and love towards my lovely audience.”

Zeripha Arnold, Ms. Belizean Heritage
“My name is Zeripha Arnold and I am representing Ms. Belizean Heritage. Ever since I was a young girl I always wanted to be a contestant in this pageant.”

Tracy Jacobs, Ms. Toledo
“I am Tracy Jacobs and I am proudly representing the Toledo District. Inspire the young teenagers of Belize and give a positive word to them and try to make Belize a better country.”

Deshawn Gamboa, Ms. Flowers Bank
“I am Deshawn Gamboa and I am representing the historic village of Flowers Bank.”

Melanie Codd, Ms. Orange Walk
“I’m Melanie Codd and I am representing Orange Walk Town. I’m very excited and I made some friends with the girls and I am also glad that I could be participating in this prestigious pageant.”

Daniella Woolley, Ms. Esperanza
“A pleasant good night to everyone my name is Daniella Woolley and I am representing Esperanza.”

“What is it that you will be bringing to the competition that will give the other girls a run for their money and seal the crown for you?”

“Actually I am doing something new for Queen of the Bay that hasn’t been done before and I hope everybody can come to see it.”

Reena Usher, Ms. Stann Creek
“I am Reena Usher representing the beautiful Stann Creek District and I entered this pageant because I know this pageant is a very prestigious pageant and I would like to just showcase my beauty and what Stann Creek has to offer.”

Millie Pulido, Queen of the West
“My name is Millie Pulido and I am Queen of the West meaning that I am representing the Cayo District. I will bring myself, my personality and everything that I have to give to this pageant.”

“Have you always wanting to compete in something like this that is so prestigious and that boasts elegance and poise?”

Millie Pulido
“I had always thought about it but I never expected I would be here and I’m glad that I am.”

The pageant is coordinated by veteran pageant organizer, Emma Boiton. Tickets are available at Bi-Way and Record Shack at fifteen dollars for reserve, ten dollars general admission and five dollars for children.
