Eleanor Sandlin, dead at 59
Tonight we regret to report the death of Eleanor Sandlin. According to officials at the National Association of Village Councils, Sandlin, who had been getting around on crutches after she broke her leg earlier this year, participated in an all day board meeting at the association’s Belmopan headquarters on Thursday. However, as she slowly made her way towards a friend’s home last night, Sandlin complained of feeling faint and collapsed. She was later transported to the Belmopan hospital but doctors there declared her dead on arrival. At the time of her death, Sandlin was the President of the National Association of Village Councils, Chairperson of the Monkey River Village Council as well as a member of a long list of boards and committees. Sandlin was renowned for her dedication towards the welfare of rural communities and the environment. She is survived by two sons and a host of other relatives and friends. We understand that while her wish was to be buried in Monkey River, family members have decided to transport her body to the United States for internment. A memorial service has tentatively been planned for two on Tuesday afternoon in Monkey River. Eleanor Sandlin, dead at the age of fifty-nine.
