Belize CitCo defends firing of City Administrator

Story PictureTonight the Belize City Council is once again the spotlight following the firing of a senior member of staff. According to the council’s Public Relations Officer Kenny Morgan, City Administrator Sharole Saldivar has been terminated from her post because she was talking to the “wrong” people.

Kenny Morgan, Public Relations Officer, Belize City Council
“There are a number of factors that contributed to the decision. Chief among them being the Council received word that there were some negotiations going on with persons offering positions to members of the City Council staff to defect from the City Council and join the P.U.P.”

Marion Ali
“Is it a violation of employment if you go into negotiations without accepting the job offer?”

Kenny Morgan
“Well it Is the manner in which the negotiations are being conducted and the chief mover behind all these negotiations is one of the owners of the sanitation companies who is a known P.U.P. supporter and fanatic as a matter of fact.”

Marion Ali
“What manner?”

Kenny Morgan
“When these people are seekingly approaching City Council employees and asking them to commit an act that would cast negative aspersions on the ability of the City Council and the Mayor to operate, then I believe it is a time for a parting of the ways.”

Marion Ali
“So she did this?”

Kenny Morgan
“Well, we do have concrete evidence that these negotiations were being facilitated and messages were being carried back and forth by herself in her position as the City Administrator and we are looking for persons in the City Council employ who have the best interests of the City Council and the residents of Belize City at heart.”

Marion Ali
“Messages to what end?”

Kenny Morgan
“The very same messages to employees of the Council that if you were to defect and join the P.U.P and resign from your post trying to become an embarrassment to the United Democratic Party Council and Mayor.”

According to Morgan, Saldivar is on sick leave so her termination takes effect on September twenty-fourth, the day she was due to return to work. The same day Saldivar got her marching papers, senior sanitation manager at the Belize City Council Delbert McKay also resigned. Morgan says the council is of the opinion that McKay has been in similar negotiations with representatives of the People’s United Party.
