Burglars charged, armed robbers still at large
In crime news, three Ladyville residents have been remanded in connection with a burglary at the El Cas plaza on the Northern Highway. According to proprietor Manuel Rodriguez, sometime between the eighth and the ninth of September, a thief or thieves broke into his store and stole a safe, five thousand seven hundred dollars in cash, a number of cheques and liquor. Subsequent police investigations have led to the arrest of three men: twenty-four year old John Williams, twenty-seven year old Derrick Dawson and twenty-six year old Keith Nicholas. All three have been charged with Burglary and remanded to Hattieville Prison until September twenty-sixth. None of the missing items were recovered by investigators.
Tonight Belize City police are on the lookout for two young men who held up a well known citizen and robbed him of cash and jewellery. Seventy-six year old Delhart Courtney told police that around eight thirty on Saturday night he had just pulled up outside his residence at number five T – Street in the Port Loyola Area. As he was exiting his car in order to open the gate he was approached from the front by two men. They held him up at gun point and stole two hundred and twelve dollars and a gold chain valued at three thousand dollars. The armed suspects, one described as dark and the other as fair complexioned, both wore dark clothing.
