Charges pending against truck driver in O.W. double fatality
More details are emerging regarding the accident that claimed the lives of Ralph Fonseca Junior and Ralph Balderamos on the Northern Highway Tuesday afternoon. Police report that the Prado, driven by Balderamos, was travelling south between miles fifty-one and fifty-two. Driving in the opposite direction was a pickup that was towing a trailer loaded with construction steel. It appears that as the two vehicles approached each other, the trailer suddenly broke away from the pickup and veered directly in the path of the Prado. Balderamos and his front seat passenger Fonseca were killed on impact. The two injured passengers riding in the backseat, Eugene Webster and Halden Stevenson, remain in stable condition at Universal Health Services following their transfer from Northern Regional Hospital.
Meanwhile police have released the name of the truck diver. He is thirty-three year old Alberto Chan, a resident of the Nuevo San Juan Area of Orange Walk Town. Authorities say the case file will be handed over to the Director of Public Prosecutions who will make the decision on whether any charges will be filed against Chan.
Reports are that Balderamos, who lived in Orlando, Florida, would travel to Belize each year to celebrate his birthday with his good friend Fonseca. We understand that on Friday Balderamos’ mother and sister will be arriving in the country to take back the body of their loved one to the United States.
