Stolen tractor recovered in Mexico

A robbery that crossed the border into Mexico has resulted in the detention of two Belizeans. Thirty-four year old Calbert Hinds and forty-three year old Wilbert Pook, residents of Carmelita village, are in police custody following an incident that unfolded in The Tiger Creek Area on the old Northern Highway. Fifty-one year old watchman Calvin Pasqual told authorities that around midnight on August twenty-ninth he was caretaking at the Johnny Johnson farm when he was suddenly awakened by noise. That is when he saw a man described as a “Spanish” driving off with a John Deere tractor.

Authorities were immediately notified and because it was believed that the tractor was taken to Mexico, Orange Walk and Corozal police quickly communicated with their counterparts across the border. A search led investigators to a cane field on the outskirts of Cacao Village in Quintana Roo. There police found the stolen tractor valued at twenty thousand dollars. It has since been returned to Belize and the suspects Hinds and Pook remain in police custody pending charges. It is believed the tractor was taken across the river at Blue Creek for eventual sale in Mexico.
