Chain snatcher caught by off duty cops
Last week the high command promised a major increase in the deployment of police officers during the September celebrations … but it was the presence of two off duty officers who saved the day for one Belize City resident over the long weekend. Around twelve-thirty on Monday afternoon, twenty-three year old Margaret Ogaldez was standing in front of her residence on Wilson Street when she noticed two men riding towards her on bicycles. Ogaldez reports that as the men approached her one of them suddenly grabbed a gold chain from around her neck and rode off.
He did not, however, get very far. Two off duty cops and a civilian who were in the area saw what was happening and chased down the fleeing robber who still had the chain in his possession. The suspect has been identified as nineteen year old Lindon Castillo. Today police charged him with Theft.
