8th Lionman Triathalon scheduled for Sunday
If music isn’t your thing, you might want to head over to Sandlighters Promenade on Sunday morning for the eight running of the Lionman Triathlon. Elite, master, junior and female participants are set to swim, ride and run in this year’s event and today organizers hoped that the sport’s growing popularity will encourage a new class of athletes.
Giovanni Laing, National Triathlon Association
“Beginning of this month we should have been having a back to school triathlon where we would have been involving high school students and primary school but because of Dean, the threat of Dean, that drove back our plans for that event. So we are looking into the youths, starting from the primary school right through to the high school. They are the future, we have to build our youths, our young and develop them so that they become what we refer to as triathletes, rather than just sport enthusiasts or athletes who just want to come out and use the sport of triathlon that we are having to basically continue to strengthen them in their field of sports or in their discipline of sport.”
The triathlon is set to start at eight in the morning with the individual competition. Once the course is clear, the corporate relay teams will start their race.
