Taxi man murdered in Cayo
While most Belizeans spent the weekend fixated on the evolution of Hurricane Felix, some were busy engaging in some man-made destruction, otherwise known as crime. Tonight San Ignacio police have three people detained for questioning following the discovery of a corpse on Saturday morning. According to investigators, the body of forty-eight year old taxi driver Leopoldo Waight was found lying face down on the ground in an area north of the Cahal Pech Resort with what appeared to be gunshot wounds to the head and back. The body was transferred to the San Ignacio Hospital but the results of a post mortem examination have yet to be released. Detectives have been able to determine that Waight was last seen transporting four passengers in his blue Toyota Camry. The vehicle has yet to be recovered. If you have any information that may assist investigators, please contact the nearest police station. In other crime news, police have arrested and charged a Belize City resident in connection with one of last week’s homicides. According to investigators, twenty-four year old Lloyd Faber is the man who opened fire on thirty-one year old Jerry Jones around seven-thirty on Thursday night. Faber has been charged with murder and remanded to Hattieville Prison.
