Bel-Caribe Hams up the Hampers for 11 Families
And with just three days to go before Christmas, many families are still finding it difficult to make ends meet to put the Christmas dinner on the table. Well earlier today, Bel-Caribe Communication Services reached out to eleven needy families to make their holidays merry. They handed out hefty food hampers, packed with everything needed for the Christmas dinner and the trimmings. Bel-Caribe Sales Manager, Lorraine Herrera, told News Five today that their business partners were extra generous this year, allowing them to assist more families than in previous years.

“This morning we went around and we delivered food hampers for deserving families. The purpose of doing this is that we wanted to bring some Christmas cheer around this time of year to people who are deserving of Christmas groceries.”

“So what are some of the things that they received in these hampers?”
Lorraine Herrera
“Today they got ham, chicken, groceries, noodles, rice flour, sugar; you know basic grocery stuff. It’s not only stuff that they can use during Christmas but they can also use it afterwards so can goods and things like that.”
Delahnie Bain
“How did this initiative come about? Is it something that you all have done before?”
Lorraine Herrera
“Yes, this is actually our sixth year doing this. For the past five years, we normally would reach out to one or two families but this year we said let us widen our search and so we decided to reach out to our business contacts and the response was so overwhelming that we were able to give out eleven hampers this year.”
Delahnie Bain
“So how do you find these needy families?”
Lorraine Herrera
“Well, the families are picked by staff and we also partner along with the Belize Cancer Society and the National AIDS Commission.”
Delahnie Bain
“Is there anything else you would want to highlight?”
Lorraine Herrera
“We would just like to say thanks to all our sponsors for helping us to reach out to these people today. They were very happy when they received their hampers. And we just want to say thank you, Merry Christmas and happy holidays from the staff and management of B.E.L.-Caribe Communications Services.”
The Food Hampers to Needy Families initiative was the brainchild of Bel-Caribe’s previous owner, Cynthia Henry.
