Southern Hway accident claims life of Cayo man
A traffic accident on the Southern Highway over the weekend has claimed the life of a Cayo man. According to police, around three-thirty on Saturday afternoon motorists alerted them to an accident near the Independence junction. When officers showed up, they found an extensively damaged KIA S.U.V. off the right shoulder of the road and the driver a short distance away suffering from severe head and body injuries. He was rushed to the medical clinic in Independence but officials there pronounced him dead on arrival. The victim has since been identified as thirty-two year old Kenrick Young, a resident of Bullet Tree Falls in the Cayo district. Preliminary investigations reveal that Young was heading to Punta Gorda when he lost control of the vehicle and overturned. It is believed Young was not wearing a seatbelt and was fatally injured as he was flung from the cab. A passenger travelling with Young at the time of the accident, twenty-one year old Abimael Medina, received minor injuries but has since been treated and released.
