Grace’s 2012 Calendar
It’s that time of year when businesses across the country give away calendars to patrons as a token of their appreciation. Grace Kennedy Belize Limited which launched its series in January 2009 today presented its 2012 calendar before an audience of culinary enthusiasts in the Old Capital. The New Year’s calendar showcases a collection of local and cultural dishes that are sure to whet the appetites of seasoned chefs and pique the interests of those learning their way around the kitchen. News Five’s Isani Cayetano was present at the launch and has the following report.

If you’re a fan of ethnic cuisine then consider yourself treated to a variety of easy-to-make Belizean dishes thanks to Grace Kennedy Belize Ltd. This morning at the House of Culture in Belize City the Caribbean food product giant unveiled its fourth calendar complete with recipes for a variety of cultural dishes.
Trudy Joseph, Brand Manager, Grace Kennedy Belize Ltd.
“This year our Grace Creative Cooking Calendar actually features some of the cultures of Belize because of course you know we are a melting pot. So we just try to get representation from some of the cultures. It was very exciting getting people together, asking people to assist us and we got a lot of assistance. When we talk about the Maya culture, what recipe will we used. And then it was like we can do this, we can do this…And what I tried to do was to choose recipes that I know people would want to try, things that people probably thought about but didn’t know how to do it and so that was the thought about doing this. And doing the front page cover again, who do we get to be on the front page and we decided we are going to use young folks, older folks, boys, girls—and that was really wonderful seeing everyone dressed up in their cultural attire.”
Followers of this initiative, the faithful who have collected calendars and watched Grace and you on this station since the project was launched in early 2009 will notice that there was no competition this year. Instead, Joseph says they chose to highlight the cultures of Belize in their entirety.

“This year I didn’t do a competition because again I wanted it to be something more of love than saying ok well this one tasted nicer than this one and this is the reason why we chose this. We just want to promote the cultures and family time and cooking time. So no competition this time, but next year definitely.”
According to Joseph the recipes on the 2012 calendar are all first class and it‘s difficult to determine which is the best of them all.

“It’s hard for me to say. I think that I really loved everything and I don’t want to pick one because I think that everything was just so great. and all I am suggesting to people is that you take the recipes and try it and see if you want to try something and create your own recipe. So for me I don’t wanna say one. I just say try all of them and they will be fun for you to do and for you to eat.”
