Softballers have a rough time in Nicaragua
In a bit of sports news we are informed that Belize’s female softballers finished a disappointing fourth out of five in the Central American Club Championships held over the weekend in Esteli Nicaragua. The “Hot Mamas” team from Unitedville got off to a rocky start, losing two – zip to Nicaragua on Friday but bounced back with a 9-2 clobbering of Honduras. On Saturday Belize split a pair with Guatemala but lost both games against El Salvador. On Sunday the girls lost again to Nicaragua before shutting out Honduras 14 – nothing. Progresso Cemento of Guatemala won the title by defeating Marte Lotin of El Salvador in the final game. Named to the all-star team were Belizean standouts Kereen Gillett and Shandalee Ho.
