B.T.L. chief says services will be back shortly
Also in the Free Zone today assessing damage was Belize Telemedia chief Dean Boyce. Boyce says that telecommunication services in all hurricane affected areas of Belize should be restored by weekend.
Dean Boyce, Board Member, B.T.L.
“We have some damage, usually to the drop lines, so this is the last couple of hundred metres to some of the houses. But all the main switches countrywide for B.T.L., they’re all fully operational, all the G.S.M. platforms, the amps platforms. It’s just that— It’s power, that’s our big issue.

“So for those other areas, other areas of the country that are affected, what can you tell us your customers as to when they’ll get back their services back to normal?”
Dean Boyce
“For the G.S.M., there’s about four G.S.M. sights that are down; they’re all in the north. And even in the north at Corozal’s okay. I mean, I can get some signal here, from Corozal, and it’s the same with Orange Walk. Some sites, I think Blue Creek for example, that went down but that’s been recovered and we’ve covered that. The main links into places like San Pedro, which was a concern to us— San Pedro itself I think, a line plug was buried from the last hurricane, so our fixed lines were working there, as far as I know, pretty well.”
If you want to check on the progress of repairs in your area you can log on to either of two B.T.L. websites. Those are www.belizetelemedia.net or www.belizeweb.net. Just click on the banner labelled hurricane restoration.
