Belize loses by a hair to Honduras in football tournament
Belize’s Revolutionary Conquerors of Dangriga started out strong during their match last night against Real Espana of Honduras, but their luck did not last. The local boys scored the first goal in the sixteenth minute of the first half when Dennis Serano blasted one into the opposing net. However, our guests tied the match ten minutes later. No one scored in the second half but two minutes into overtime, Serano made us proud again when he scored the second goal for Conquerors. That tied the home and away series, the first game of which was won by the Hondurans 2-1. A penalty shootout was now required in which Real Espana wound up on top, beating Conquerors by a score of 4-2. That’s the end of the line for the Dangriga team in this tournament but Thursday night F.C Belize will get a chance to avenge a 3-nil loss to Puntarenas of Costa Rica. Play starts at seven-thirty at the M.C.C Grounds. Belize’s Shane Orio will start as goalkeeper for the Costa Ricans.
