Two wounded in shootings; crimes may be related
There are more questions than answers in a pair of shooting incidents that sent two young men to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital on Tuesday night. Police say they do not have much to go on but believe the assaults on twenty-three year old Andrew West and twenty-eight year old Edwin Rivera are related.
It all started around seven last night when police found their first victim, West, suffering from gunshot wounds to his left arm, left leg and left buttocks. West told the cops that while he was walking on Waight Street where he lives, two men approached him armed with what appeared to be thirty-eight revolvers and fired several shots. He was rushed to the KHMH where he remains in a stable condition.
But as police were investigating the West case, three hours later they were back at the crime scene where they would find their second victim. Rivera who also resides at a Waight street address, told police that he too was walking in the area when he heard several shots and realized that he had been hit in the right forearm. Rivera claims he does not know who shot him or why.
Police, however, believe the cases may be connected because preliminary reports suggest that both victims are acquainted with each other and may have had problems between them. Authorities however have not been getting much cooperation from the victims and are asking anyone with leads in this matter to call the nearest police station.
